How to Become a Psychological Samurai! | The Mental Toughness Coach - Chris Dorris

How to Become a Psychological Samurai!

Several years ago, I was a contributor to an online Academy that was called Entheos. I recorded several classes, each of which is about a half hour long. I’ve decided to recycle these now as blog posts because the content is really good, and I wanted to share it with you.

I love the word “entheos” because interestingly that is the Greek root of the word “enthusiasm.” Entheos means the creator within, and when we activate the state of enthusiasm, we’re activating all forms of creative genius.

I hope you find this content useful and enjoyable, and as always, CREATE MIRACLES!

In this video I will take you through the true fundamentals of Mental Training. Exercise your mind to become Psychologically Strong, Emotionally Intelligent, and Mentally Tough.

How to Become a Psychological Samurai!

If you were committed to getting into the best shape of your life, then you’d have to exercise with tremendous regularity. You’d have to do exercises. And keep doing them. Most trainers are in full agreement that it’s a really good idea to switch up the exercises, but ALL are in agreement that if you stop the training, you start to lose your strength. Well, it’s no different with your mind. If you’re committed to being Psychologically Strong, Emotionally Intelligent, or Mentally Tough (all of which I equate to Enlightened), then you must exercise your mind. Regulary. And sustainably.
In this course, I’m going to take you through the true fundamentals of Mental Training. These are the exercises that I rely upon in my training with the elite athletes and executives of the world. You’re gonna dig it.

1. Chipping Away. You’re ALREADY TOUGH!

I’ve already deceived you. I implied above that without exercise you can’t be mentally tough. Well, that’s not entirely true. See, when each of us comes into this life, we are ALREADY as psychologically strong as we could ever be. We experience the world as a field of infinite possibilities. We have yet to be educated about our limitations. But then we become well educated about those limitations. So the training is really about UNLEARNING.

2. Living Above “The O-Line”

Unless we are in The Gap (Big Idea #10), then we are interpreting reality in one of three ways: in a way that has us feel like crap, in a way that has us feel neutral, or in a way that has us feel en*thused. The “O-Line” refers to the hash mark on the continuum of human emotions that represents neutrality – or OBSERVATION. The Observation live. If I say, “Today is Monday” that’s an observation. If I say, “Thank God it’s Monday!” that’s an interpretation (a masterful one). That’s above the O-Line.
That’s where we want to live.

3. The Shooter’s Mentality

This is a really cool tool for interpreting reality in non-linear, often delusional ways, that have you convert every circumstance into fuel! Solid. (It uses basketball, not guns, as the metaphor.)

4. Game Face

It ain’t a facial expression. It’s the mood behind the face. And it happens to be the mood that you’re in when you’re at your best.
We’re going to learn to harness it and activate it at will

5. Imagery

One of the most powerful – and most misused – tools we have as humans. The ability to experience the future in the mind’s eye in advance.

6. The Convincing Argument

Say you have an important upcoming event or performance, and you had to convince a panel of judges that this particular performance (whether it be an oral presentation, a sales pitch, an athletic event, a musical or dance performance) was going to be the best one of your life, what would you say? How would you have them be infinitely convinced of that? (The “panel, by the way” is a metaphor for your ego that wants you to doubt yourself.) This tool is AMAZEBALLS for helping to create pure competence and confidence and expertise.

7. Pre-Game Mental Prep

If you were asked the question, “What, specifically, do you do before an important event or performance in your life in order to ensure that you’re going into it with the perfect mindset?” would you have a real answer? Well, if not, you will now.

8. Post-Game Routine

If you were asked the question, “What do you do AFTER an important event or performance in order to wring it dry of all of the learning it has for you – to ensure that you grow from it?” would you have an answer…..you will.

9. The DMTTR

If you were asked the question, “So, what exactly do YOU do on a daily basis that has you be stronger psychologically with each consecutive day?” what would you say. I got an answer for ya. It’s the Daily Mental Toughness Training Routine (DMTTR), and it’s money.

10. The Gap

The space between thoughts. Where magic occurs. The psychological “off switch”.
The portal to the non-local realm. The discontinuity. Huh? It’s the tool that teaches you to clear the mind.
It’s Transcendental Meditation, but that’s way too long a name. The Gap is much cooler. I’ll see you there.
